When Chris and I first started looking into missions, one of the first questions we were asked was “What people group do you feel called to?” Our answer? “We don’t know!” How can we pick just one group of people? Today, we finally have an answer to that burning question, and our people group is “The Expatriate Peoples.” Today, 200 million people are displaced from their home country and are living abroad either because of jobs, people seeking refuge, or those choosing to migrate to a new country. To put that into perspective, if you took these people and grouped them all together they would make up the 6th largest country in the world!
In Italy, 2.5 million people fall into this “ex-pat” category. Thats more then the population of Houston, Texas! There is a huge need for ministry to this community!
When we and the Hollands started looking into serving at an International Church with the International Baptist Convention, we were told of a church that is currently meeting in Rome- Rome International Church. The pastor that is currently there will be moving back to the States in June of this year and the congregation will be left without a pastor. Loren and Alaina were able to visit the congregation a few months ago, and Chris and I just got back from spending 10 days with them. It was an amazing experience to be part of this congregation for a short time. Chris and I got to be part of Rome International Church’s first baptism! We visited the Refugee center where the Church is currently serving, as well as seeing a number of other ways the church is serving.
On Sunday, October 23rd, Rome International Church voted to have our team come to serve them! We are beyond excited and so ready to be part of the work that is already taking place in Rome! Please join us in prayer as we continue down this road to serve the Lord in Rome!
